THIERRY MUGLER Vintage S/S 1998 “Soie-toi-même” Iconic Suit With Original Tags
Iconic vintage Thierry Mugler cotton suit from his Spring/Summer 1998 collection titled “Soie toi Même” documented by Helmut Newton - new with original tags still attached.
We are too excited about this suit as this photograph by Helmut Newton is one of our all time favourites! This incredible two piece skirt suit is a light rose colour and made from a beautiful textured cotton. It features a velvet thorn-like detail along the opening, collar and sleeves - the beautiful contrast between the soft rose colour and graphic black thorns makes this suit so special. The jacket features a deep-V neckline, short sleeves and it is tailored to give you the most incredible silhouette, so dramatic and super feminine in classic Thierry Mugler style. The skirt closes with a zip and snap buttons at the back and falls just above the knee. So iconic!

———-
Thierry Mugler was a french fashion designer, creative director and photographer. Known for his avant-garde, sculpture-like designs with dramatic hyper-feminine hour-glass silhouettes. His often scandalous designs drew from a wide range of influences including science fiction, film noir, dominatrixes and glamour - to name a few. Muglers’ haute couture and ready to wear shows were revolutionary theatrical productions and he pioneered diversity in casting by including a wide range of ages, body types, ethnicities and gender identities on the runway.
Thierry Mugler launched his first collection titled “Cafe de Paris” in 1973 and by 1978 he opened his first boutique in the 1st Arrondissement in Paris. Through the 1980s and 1990s Thierry Mugler gained international recognition with his exaggerated tailored suits and dresses with ultra-feminine silhouettes. His designs recall 1940s femme fatale and 1950s glamour with broad shoulders, cinched waists and tight pencil skirts which continue to empower and inspire women to this day.
