Peter Lindbergh. Azzedine Alaïa

The latest addition to the SUMO library is the beautiful Taschen monograph titled “Peter Lindbergh. Azzedine Alaïa,” which accompanies the current exhibition by the same name at the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation in Paris. Edited by Carla Sozzani, the book explores the dynamic collaboration and relationship between two immense talents, illustrated through beautiful, grainy, black and white photographs interspersed by insightful quotes from both artists. Forewords are written by Olivier Saillard, Paolo Roversi, and Fabrive Hergort.

Photographer and couturier - a perfect creative partnership. Lindbergh and Alaïa shared very similar values. Both were passionate and generous. They had a mutual love for the colour black, as well as a timeless aesthetic. And perhaps more than anything, both were incredibly inspired by women, a theme which is returned to often in quotes throughout the book. Lindbergh photographed many collections by Alaïa through the 80’s and 90’s. His way of capturing light and portraying his models naturally, with pure authentic expression and movement, both compliments and emphasises Alaïa’s sculptural, form-fitting designs. This book celebrates many of their artistic collaborations, with appearances by legendary muses such as Naomi Cambell, Nadja Auermann, Kristen McMenamy, and Tina Turner. “Peter Lindbergh. Azzedine Alaïa” is a celebration of two great talents, as well as a true celebration of women.
